On the weekend of 12th-14th of April 2019 the level 5, 6 and 7 PIT MAG Boys made the trip down to Geelong Arena to compete against the best gymnasts in Victoria at the Senior Victorian Championships. For many of these boys this is the most important competition of the year and a whole year of hard training has come down to this weekend.
The level 5’s started the jam-packed weekend with Will Johnson taking out 1st All Around, remaining undefeated for this entire competition season. The first apparatus was Rings with Will B showing a nice straight body inlocate mid way through his routine while Will J demonstrated composure in his press to gain the bonus points on offer. Over to Vault with Harley competing one of his best layout and handstand vaults to claim the silver medal! Well done Harley second in Victoria! Will J also managed the same feat in the under division to pick up the sliver.
Moving to P-bars with Will J showing his consistency again with both bonus elements being paid while Harley pulled out the save of the century and held his swing to handstand for two seconds. H-bar followed and Will B was pumped for his flyaway dismount. He’s been working overtime at training to get it into the routine for Vic’s and it was executed beautifully when the time came. Harley also demonstrated a fantastic three quarter giant, a skill he’s also been training hard to get.
Onto the final two apparatuses starting with Floor, Harley and Will B displayed confident back handsprings in both the first and last passes. Will J produced his cleanest routine of the season handling the pressure and nailing his press to handstand (his coach couldn’t handle the pressure that's for sure!) to claim the title of 1st place. Finally the concluding apparatus Pommel, Will J smashed his routine to score a whopping 10.566! This was two whole marks ahead of second place which really emphasises the difficulty of the routine. The boys also placed third in the Level 5 Team event which was great to see them on the podium!
Congratulations to Both Harley and Will B on their season after a very very short preparation period. There has been a lot of hard work put into training and it’s been great to see so many skill additions over the season. Congratulations to Will J who claimed 1st All Around and is the Level 5 Under Victorian Champion for 2019. All the hard work has paid off and looking forward to tackling the next set of levels!
The level 6 Open's were next up. Against tough competition Callum competed six clean and consistent routines and secured 3rd place All Around and a 3rd on P-bars wrapping up a great competition season. Mason had a consistent competition and showed a huge improvement in all of his routines.
The level 7’s had a gruelling two days of competition filled with many ups and downs but persevered in the end to get some great results. Sarki came 5th on Rings with a clean and powerful routine. Ben landed a massive Tsuk tuck on Vault, finishing with a 3rd place. Thomas competed a smooth and controlled Pommel routine packed with high difficulty to secure him a 2nd place medal. In his very first year competing level 7 Under, Newman pulled out a high-flying Floor and Vault routine and claimed 3rd place on both apparatus respectively.
A big congratulations to all of the boys who competed at the Victorian Championships. The boys are now excited to start working on new skills for the next competition season or prepare for nationals at the end of May.
