PIT Boys Face First Competition of 2019

The first competition of the year is always character building. It gives gymnasts an idea of where they are compared to the other gymnasts in Victoria and what they need to do here on out to achieve their goals for the rest of the year. Sunday, last weekend (17/02/19) marked the start of the MAG competition season at the Men’s HPP.

Consistency was the key for the Level 6 Open Callum, finishing 2nd on Pommel and 2nd on Parallel Bars, securing him 3rd place All Around and proving to be a gymnast to look out for, for the rest of the competition season.

In his first competition after coming back from a long break, Sasha gave it his absolute best finishing 12th out of a strong field of 30 boys in level 6 Open.

Level 7 Open’s Thomas has entered this year having upped his difficulty 10-fold and was excited to display his daring routines. Thomas placed 3rd on P-Bars and finished in the top 5 All Around out of 21 gymnasts.

Newman competed at Level 7 Under for the first time, completing 6 difficult routines and securing himself three podium positions. This is a great effort for Newman and shows his sheer talent for the sport and ability to adapt to this rapid increase in skill level.

The first comp nerves did not seem to phase the Level 5 Under superstar Will J on the weekend as he competed 6 consistent, high quality routines to secure him an All Around 1st place and a strong start to the year.

Will B and Harley in the level 5 Open division showed determination and heart as they battled through their tough new routines for the first time and completed their first senior competition.

After getting the first competition nerves out of the way, the boys are looking forwards to improving on their skills and bringing their “A” game to the next competition in a weeks time at Knox.
