Red Carpet rolled out for GV Ball & Awards Night
The night of nights had arrived, the Brownlow of the gymnastics world: Gymnastics Victoria Family Ball & Awards Night. The awards night has grown considerably over the years with a new venue this year to accommodate the staggering growth of the sport. It was a great night down at the Docklands Wharfs opposite Marvel Stadium with PIT featuring in a few of the finalist award categories:
Large Club of the Year
Large Club Competitive MAG & WAG Coaching Teams
Inclusive Leader of the Year
Club Official of the Year: Carol James
Carol officiated as a National Technical Official at the 2018 FIG Melbourne World Cup. She is a GA presenter & assessor and assists with the development and mentorship of upcoming judges. She judges across multiple gymnastic sports including MAG, WAG and ACRO. She is also an FIG accredited judge, a rare feat considering she was not a gymnast herself
Open Levels Gymnast of the Year: Ben Holden
Ben had a very successful year at level 10 Open claiming 2nd AA at the Victorian Championships followed by a 4th AA at the National Championships. He was also part of the level 10 winning team at the Victorian Championships for the second year in a row.
Another significant award of the night was the recognition of John Dorrington being presented Life Membership by Gymnastics Victoria. John has made a significant contribution to the sport of gymnastics throughout his career especially within the MAG and GFA sector. His passion and innovative approach to delivering gymnastics has had a positive impact on thousands of gymnasts, parents and coach’s lives over the 40 years of PIT’s operation, many of whom have now gone onto running their own gymnastic businesses or pursued other careers within the gymnastics community. Unfortunately, John was not present on the night and his induction was accepted by his son Anthony on his behalf.
