On the weekend of the 13th & 14th of October the PIT boys headed to BTYC for their last competition of the year: The Junior Victorian Championships. Anticipation and enthusiasm was high after coming off a successful competition season including our trip down to the Tasmanian Championships three weeks prior.
Level 1 Under and 2 Under
First up in the morning were the level 1’s & 2’s. The boy started on Vault with Lucciano displaying a powerful and tight take off in his straight jump while Adel claimed third in L1 with a 9.7! Next rotation on P-bars, Dominic showed an excellent dismount with a straight body while Adel again showed some excellent extension in his support swings.
Over to H-bar and the boys were starting to relax and build their confidence. Lachlan smashed his H-bar routine claiming first with Liam and Maxim close behind in third and fourth respectively. Finn also demonstrated excellent extension with his swings and was unlucky to place, coming in at fourth for L2. Moving onto Floor with both levels showing the competition who’s boss with Liam first, Lachlan second & Adel fourth in L1. Finn chimed in with an excellent performance claiming first while Dominic showed us the Floor routine of a life time placing third in an extremely competitive field in L2.
On the home straight with only two to go. Liam and Finn stepped up to the plate claiming first on Pommels in their respective levels while solid performances by Adel (second place) Mersin (fourth), Lachlan (fifth) and Maxim (sixth) helped PIT to own the Pommel podium. Finally, on Rings, Noah finished strong with a cracking routine to claim third and Liam finishing on a high with first place.
To the final final award of presentations, it was Liam who came out on top claiming first All Around and becoming the the State Champion while Finn finished his day with Third All Around in Level 2. The Level 1’s also took out the team event to become the Victorian Champions! Congratulations to all the boys on a successful year, looking forward to seeing you in action in 2019!
Level 3 Under and Over
The following session saw the Level 3’s in action. Starting on Vault again, Thomas lead the charge with a 9.0 displaying some nice shapes and lines with his two vaults while James catapulted impressively into the air with his dive-roll but unfortunately couldn't stick the landing. Moving to P-bars, Josh executed an excellent kip while Jamil showed a clean routine to pick up sixth.
Moving onto H-bar with Henry shooting out nicely out of his Stalder and Lucas demonstrating good height in his long swings. James also performed one of his best routines and Adam claimed 6th on the apparatus. Over to Floor and all the boys showed classy routines with poise and control with their connections.
The highlight of the comp came with Pommels. Josh, Adam, Jamil and Daniel all hit their bonus routines showing great fight to stay on the mushroom under the high pressure. All four have been working hard in training to hit this particular routine so it was very rewarding to see them deliver! Jamil placed fifth and Daniel seventh. Finally to Rings, Daniel showed some excellent turnover swings while Steven demonstrated a very classy routine – his best of the comp.
Overall it was a highly competitive session with increased difficulty routines being introduced at the start of 2018. The Level 3 Under Team placed second overall missing first place by only a mark! An excellent result considering the team of four had to have every score count towards the team total. Great work boys!
Level 4 Under and Over
To finish off the day were the Level 4’s of Will J, Will B and Harley. Starting on floor this time, Will J came out firing with some excellent extension in his tumble passes placing second while Harley also demonstrated a nice rebound out of handspring. Over to Pommels and all boys showed grit and determination with Harley (Sixth) and Will B hitting their routines.
Over to Rings with Will J scoring a 9.7 by displaying powerful swings and tight lines. Harley produced on of his best Ring routines of the season with a solid shoulder stand bonus. Vault was a bit of a nail biter for the coach as Harley and Will B managed to get their run-ups correct when it counted to hit their Layouts.
Next on P-bars, Will B surprised me by stating he wouldn't go for the bonus but then proceeded to attempt it anyway in his competition routine. In the end it wasn't a problem as he cheekily gave me a smile at the completion of the routine. Will J placed second with a 9.4. Finally on H-bar, Will J produced an amazing comp-high score of 9.9 to claim second while Harley executed an outstanding kip-cast-Stalder to finish on a high.
Congratulations to Will J who finished the competition with second All Around in the under division. Will has had an outstanding competition season this year, all his hard work has paid off! Special mention to Will B who competed one day back from a month long vacation, you had a fantastic mentality on the day considering your preparation. Good job Boys!
