Gymnaestrada 2019: Dornbirn, Austria - Participation Expression of Interest

PIT Gymnastics will be sending a group of gymnasts to the 2019 world Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn Austria. This is an amazing event that PIT has been represented at for the last 20 years. It is held every 4 years in a different European country.

It’s not a competition, there are no winners or losers. It’s an opportunity for gymnasts and parents to share an amazing gymnastic cultural experience together. There are no requirements in regard to age and experience. A love of gymnastics and the excitement of performing with 20,000 gymnasts from around the world is the only prerequisite.

PIT Gymnastics has registered a team. We can add to our team list throughout 2018. Participation is not limited to PIT club members. In previous years PIT has had participants from different clubs (even from interstate), friends of friends and also team supporters (participate in all Gymnaestrada activities except for the actual display itself). If you are interested and would like to find out more, please come and talk to John or Ant Dorrington.

We will be having a number of training sessions over the next one and a half years on a number of Sunday afternoon/evenings developing our display. Our first information/training session will be held at 6.15pm Sunday 20th May. Please feel free to come along and ask any of the past participants on the experience of the event. Notice will be given when a definite answer to participation will be required.

The cost of trip will be approx. $5000 including airfare. Breakdown of costs in bulletin 1 attached. There is a great deal of flexibility for extra personal travel before and/or after the Gymnaestrada event.

To help participants with planning, take note of the following dates:

2019 Victorian School holiday dates:

  • 29th June- 14th July

2019 Gymnaestrada dates:

  • Australian training camp in the Austrian mountains: 2nd or 3rd - 6th July 2019

  • Gymnaestrada event: 7th - 13th July 2019.

The purpose of the camp is to allow for all individual groups to come together as one Australian team; recover from long-distance travel and to rehearse routines. Time is also given for some sight-seeing. At the conclusion of the camp, the team will travel together to the school accommodation in Dornbirn.
