Junior PIT Invitational

November 2, 2017

On Sunday the 29th of October, PIT Gymnastics held the Junior PIT Invitational over three action packed sessions. It’s always nice to be competing on home turf and the boys put on a fantastic display of gymnastics.

First up in the morning were the Level 2’s competing in only their second competition! Accompanied by coach Ben Holden, the boys held their nerves and made it through in one piece. Great to the see the boys progressing with Finn placing 2ndon High Bar with a 9.65.

Next up were the Level 3 Open and Under boys. The 3 Unders had a terrific comp with Adam placing 2nd All Around: 1st on Floor and Rings. Jamil put in his most consistent comp to finish 5th All Around and almost executing his Pommel routine of five consecutive circles. James unfortunately had a few slip ups during the early rotations but had a solid finish picking up ribbons on Rings, Vault and High Bar. And last but not least, Daniel showing some fine form on Rings and collecting 3rd place.

In the Open division, the boys displayed a more consistent competition all-around with Josh demonstrating one of the best back-hip circle under swings I’ve seen. He obviously had the judge’s heads turned as he collected 3rd place with a score of 9.8. Like Josh, Thomas produced one of his best front sault vaults, stomping his landing to collect 3rd place. Henry continued his clean form on Floor to claim 6th place while Steven bravely battled on with blisters on both hands to score an 8.05 on High Bar. It was fantastic to see Lucas improving and competing his bonus vault to two mats for the first time with a score of 8.1.

During the last session Harley and Will placed exceptionally well coming in at 3rd and 9th All Around respectively. Harley held his nerves together through the middle stages of the comp to make a well deserved debut on the All Around podium. Will improved on his All Around score getting over 50 points and picking up a placing on Pommels. Both boys are on the verge of adding in bonus skills and they almost made an appearance at the Invitational. Looking forward to seeing them at the Vic Champs in three weeks!

A big thanks to all the parents who helped out with the setup and pack up of the gym and also to those who helped with fundraising throughout the day, much appreciated!
